What do campers need to be able to do to be successful at PCDC?

To ensure a safe, fun, and inclusive camp experience, campers are expected to demonstrate the following skills and behaviors, with consideration for age-appropriate development:

Activity Skills
  • Participation: Engage in daily indoor and outdoor activities with their assigned group.
  • Transitions: Move successfully and cooperatively between areas and activities throughout the camp day.
  • Group Safety: Stay within their designated activity area and always remain with their group.
  • Listening Skills: Understand and follow basic verbal directions from staff.
  • Safety Awareness: Consistently follow all safety rules across campgrounds and activity areas.
  • Respect for Equipment: Treat camp materials and equipment responsibly and with care.
  • Pool & Splash Park Readiness: Campers must be fully potty trained to participate in activities at the Full-Sized Pools and Big Splash park. Our three Tiny Tot wading pools and splash pad are available for safe and fun water play and swimming for campers who are not yet potty trained.
Behavioral Skills
  • Safety Awareness: Understand and follow all safety rules, particularly around water, group activities, and transitions.
  • Self-Advocacy: Communicate needs and wants in a manner appropriate for their age and developmental stage.
  • Emotional Regulation: Manage emotions in a way that does not disrupt the group or pose harm to themselves or others.
  • Social Skills: Engage in making friends, sharing, taking turns, and interacting respectfully and empathetically with peers and staff.
  • Respectful Conduct: Use positive words and actions to treat fellow campers and staff with kindness and respect.
  • Personal Boundaries: Keep hands, feet, and personal belongings to themselves.
  • Inclusive Behavior: Avoid teasing, excluding others, or engaging in any behavior that could be hurtful to peers.
